Her story

How Phonics Ki Pathshala began

“Every teacher we train carries phonics into a whole classroom of children. That is how a reading culture is built — one confident teacher at a time.”

Alka Gupta Sawant started Phonics Ki Pathshala with a simple observation: children were being asked to read English without ever being taught how English works.

Her answer was a structured phonics programme for teachers — one that shows them exactly what to teach, in what order, and how to help a struggling reader without losing the class.

Today the brand supports teachers, tutors, pre-primary schools and parents who want children to read with understanding and spell with confidence.

Her approach

Four principles behind everything we build

These shape our training, our books and the way we support schools and franchise partners.

Teacher-first

When teachers feel confident, every child in the room benefits. We invest first in the adult in front of the class.

Structured & systematic

Sounds are taught in a deliberate order, with blending and spelling built in step by step — not left to chance.

Practical, not theoretical

Everything we teach can be used in tomorrow's lesson: real routines, real materials, real classroom language.

Early foundations matter

Strong reading and spelling in the pre-primary years change how a child learns for the rest of their schooling.
